English Cottage on the Mountain: Project Reveal in Okemo, Vermont

When our client purchased her ski house, she was immediately taken with the stunning views and the unbeatable ski on/off access at Okemo Mountain. However, the interior was stuck in the 1980s, complete with worn-out features like popcorn ceilings, an original kitchen, and outdated bathrooms.

Originally from England and now residing with her active family in Westport, CT, our client had a vision for a charming, mountain-inspired retreat. Understanding the power of exceptional design, she hired our team at Teaselwood Design to design a warm and inviting ski home tailored to her family's specific needs.

Embracing English Cottage Inspiration

With a vision of incorporating a cozy English cottage aesthetic, the primary goal was to design and craft a charming kitchen equipped with a stylish coffee bar and a cozy dining nook. The focus extended to curating a timeless and sophisticated primary suite, a fun and inviting shared bedroom, and a revamped, functional, and charming mudroom space that adds character and practicality to the overall design scheme.

Kitchen Makeover

In our design plan, we wholeheartedly embraced the cozy cottage style within the kitchen space. By removing a half wall, we opened up the area, creating a light and breezy atmosphere. The cabinetry, painted in Farrow & Ball's Elephants Breath, along with the beautifully hued handcrafted tiles for the backsplash, added charm and elegance. We extended the kitchen's space by reworking the entrance door and transforming a closet into a charming coffee bar. We crafted a cozy dining nook with a wooden pedestal table and a custom-built bench to enhance the layout.

Living Area Revamp

Our goal in the cozy living room was to blend rustic elements and design a functional layout for this family's enjoyment. Adding features like stone and a rustic mantel with built-ins seamlessly elevated the living area, providing extra storage and a mix of textures. We meticulously planned the furniture arrangement to allow for moments of enjoying the sunrise over the mountains with a cup of coffee or basking in the fireplace's warmth. The walls were painted in the neutral and warm hue of Benjamin Moore's White Dove.

Sophisticated Primary Suite

The primary bathroom underwent a remarkable makeover, transforming into an elegant space. A bespoke walnut vanity embellished with brass wire accents and delicate curtain details infused an air of sophistication. The primary bedroom transformation exudes refinement with its V-groove wall embellishments, timeless brass sconces, and a custom bed. The room was elevated by the addition of window treatments that harmonized beautifully with the walls painted in Benjamin Moore's White Dove.

Shared Bedroom & Bathroom Fun

The shared bedroom and bathroom were designed to radiate a fun and energetic ambiance. Farrow & Ball Studio Green was selected for the walls and infused the space with vibrancy. Two elegant black spool beds and a charming wood nightstand were sourced to complement the walls beautifully. In the bathroom, thoughtful design choices maximized space, such as expanding the shower area and incorporating playful plaid floor tiles and green subway tiles to harmonize with the bedroom's green walls.

Functional and Timeless Mudroom

Last but not least, the mudroom was transformed into a well-designed, timeless, and functional space. Large floor tiles, wainscoting in a deep, timeless blue, whimsical wallpaper, and a live-edge bench added charm and functionality. A peg rail provided convenient storage for ski coats, gloves, and other essentials.

The end result? A ski home that perfectly encapsulates the family's needs and their affinity for English design, offering a cozy haven amidst the breathtaking surroundings of Okemo Mountain.
