Small Cottage and Pergola Reveal!

We at Teaselwood Design just wrapped a really fun design project that I wanted to share. My clients were so excited about the project they could hardly wait for it to be finished, so we were ona tight deadline to get it done for summer fun!

So let’s get right into it. The property is a summer cottage that had an existing boathouse shed and a storage shed that both probably dated back to the 1930s or so and it showed – both were in bad shape. (Picture see-through cracks and sagging roofs.) Due to strict building codes, we had to stay in the footprint of the existing sheds, and the rooflines also could not be altered.

My client’s idea was to bring the boathouse shed back to life and create a fun, kid-and-bathing-suit-friendly bunkhouse with the storage shed to be repurposed as an eating area for the family, including a large table and built-in grill and kitchen. Pretty cool vision, right?

In collaboration with an amazing team of architects, a landscape designer, and of course, the builder, we were able to transform these falling down buildings into the best spot on the property.

The bunkhouse features two built-in daybeds with storage drawers and a storage area under the table in the corner, plus a sweet window seat. The pretty, round window reflects the style and architecture of the main house. Walls are shiplap with a white washed finish which adds texture.  We were able to save the existing floor (a huge bonus!) and added the stained beadboard ceiling and beams. The exterior received a serious facelift including the porch and copper roofing, which again is reflected in the main house.

The pergola outdoor grilling area features blue stone pavers and a built-in grill and refrigeration area with storage. The countertops are soapstone and Teaselwood Design created the 9’ trestle style table with custom benches out of white oak with a white stain. 2-Moravian stars balance everything out and give the best twinkle light effect at dusk!

We couldn’t be more pleased with the end result, and more importantly, neither could our client thank you for letting us share your beautiful property.

XOXO,

Charity
